Synopsis
Television producer Taylor (Matthew Broderick) has a gambling problem, which proves problematic when he treks to Vegas to rescue his wayward niece Amanda (Brittany Snow) who is working as a prostitute. Note: this is supposed to be a comedy.
High school kid David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) is into computers. He hacks into a military computer looking for fun video games to play, and inadvertantly brings the United States to the brink of nuclear destruction by starting World War III.
This is the film version of a hit Broadway musical that was based on a Mel Brooks film: an inverted, laughable situation that unfortunately, this film never touches on. The basic gist is that Broadway producers Max Bialystock (Nathan Lane) and Leo Bloom (Matthew Broderick) strive to stage a play so terrible that it’s a guaranteed flop — allowing them to run off with the investor’s money. Could this business model be applied to a Silicon Valley startup? Never mind.
The Stepford Wives is a real time waster, even as a rental, mostly from a lack of guts. The entire premise is out-dated, that of nerdy men wanting beautiful, subservient wives. The whole stereotype of “perfect wife” these guys come up with comes straight out of the 1950s. It makes the town of Stepford look more like a white, conservative Republican hell… I certainly wouldn’t want to live there.
