Tip: How To Clean The Apple Mighty Mouse Ball

January 22nd, 2008

AppleI have a love-hate relationship with Apple’s Mighty Mouse. When I first bought one, my right hand literally started cramping up from the multi-directional mini track ball. But a few months ago my Kensington mouse died, and I now can’t be without a scroll wheel, so I’ve been using the Mighty Mouse again.

The Movie Industry In 2050

October 13th, 2007

TechnologyI recently watched a documentary on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey, regarding the challenges of trying to predict the technological future back in the 1960s. For some reason it inspired some random thoughts about where the Hollywood movie going experience will be in the more distant future - and how technology will make things both better but more likely - worse.

AppleGee, I guess we replaced our G4 iMac just in time. According to Apple Insider, Apple has just updated the minimum system requirements for OS X Leopard (coming out in October - fingers crossed) to an Intel processor, G5, or G4 867 MHz or faster.

Apple Event: New iPod Nanos, iPods, iPod Touch

September 5th, 2007

AppleAt today’s Special Apple Event, the ever-mesmerizing Mr. Jobs announced new iPod Nanos, iPods, an iPod Touch, and an iPhone price drop.

The leaked spy photographs of the iPod Nano proved accurate - this is the “fat Nano” that many people thought looked odd. I think the thinness and how Apple products look better in the flesh will hold true, but I’m honestly not too excited about the new Nano colors or capabilities.

But the iPod Touch is cool - it’s basically an iPhone without the phone. It has WiFi, which is more technology than I expected.

Apple Event Predictions: New iPods, Beatles

August 31st, 2007

AppleYet another Apple event next week Wednesday, September 5th. The invite leaves no doubt this is an iPod / music related announcement.

Over the past month rumors have floated around the Internet regarding “fat” iPod Nanos, full screen iPods, iPods that run OS X, and the Beatles in the iTunes music store, and along with it a yellow iPod to match (undoubtedly a “Yellow Submarine” reference).

Hacking A Monitor Stand

August 27th, 2007

AppleEarlier I mentioned the need for a monitor stand due to setting up the Mac Mini. I had a pretty good idea of what I was looking for - something that would raise up the monitor but allow some space beneath for the diminutive computer.

Of course, it seems pretty much every Mac Mini specific monitor stand is at least $30 if not much more.

Setting Up The Mac Mini

August 24th, 2007

AppleSo far, so good, and less work than I had thought. Apple has a great tool called the Migration Assistant, which walks you through some steps. You basically hook up your new Mac to the old one with a Firewire cable, boot the old Mac into target disk mode, indicate which user account to transfer over, and it copies everything over - applications, documents, and even network preferences.
