3G iPhone Madness: Four Hours Later, Success

July 11th, 2008

AppleAfter work I went to the Burlingame Apple Store at around 5:45 PM, to find a line going down the block. I got in line to wait for my wife, who was running late, so when she showed up, I had already waited long enough that I was essentially committed to seeing this thing through. After eating Mexican food while in line, we got in the store around 8:45. The actual purchase and activation only took about 15 minutes, and we were out of there around 9:15 or so. That’s a good 3 1/2 hours of iPhone madness.

Racial Comedy, Ethnic Stereotypes, And Hope For The Blogosphere

July 9th, 2008

TechnologyThis is a hard post to write, but I’ll just push these thoughts out there so I can get back to lusting over the 3G iPhone.

Basic back story: Loren Feldman, he of the mocking puppets signed a deal with Verizon. Corvida of SheGeeks revived the issue of past racist videos, and Feldman was dropped.

VMware CEO Greene Suddenly Replaced

July 8th, 2008

I mention this tidbit because I recently read a glowing article about Diane Green in The Economist. The story of her rise to fortune was a very typical, romantic Silicon Valley tale of success from humble beginnings: with a degree in mechanical engineering, she spent several years in Hawaii, windsurfing.

What’s Going On At Yahoo? Who Cares

July 7th, 2008

Yahoo! The whole Yahoo! thing has gone on so long, it’s difficult to keep track of what’s transpired, and I’m now wondering why I should care. The deal is on, the deal is off, employees leave, the board stays put - and Google continues pulling ahead. Meanwhile, the whole takeover-dance has gone from a “who’s hooking up with who” soap opera to a boring Merchant-Ivory production to a drama so terminally dull, it has become a test of one’s ability to stare at snoresville.

Elite Tech News #14: Obama’s Junk

July 7th, 2008

TechnologyIt’s up to debate if these podcasts are getting better or worse information-wise, but I’d say they’re getting more entertaining. At some point the conversation diverged to recycling and Art blasted the theme song of The Jeffersons - a surreal moment I’m still contemplating.

The special guest this week was Aaron Brazell (Technosailor.com) along with the usual gang of Louis Gray, Frederic, Steven Hodson, Art Lindsey, and Mark “Rizzin” Hopkins. MG Siegler was haunting the chat room.
