Aziza

December 5th, 2007

FoodWhile the folks were in town we had a scrumptious dinner at Aziza, a Moroccan / California eatery in the Richmond district of San Francisco. Amusing story: we actually wanted to go to El Mansour but couldn’t remember the name, recalling the restaurant as “some Moroccan place in the Richmond.” Anyhow, we ended up at Aziza and despite a bit of consternation at where the belly dancers and rose water were, we focused on the food and weren’t disappointed.

American Flatbread Pizza

November 19th, 2007

FoodFrozen pizza is one of those convenience foods that we latch onto every once in a while, since it’s so easy to prepare and I’ve rarely met a pizza I didn’t like. We usually heat up this Trader Joe’s Four Cheese pizza thing and put our own toppings on. However, on a whim we tried this different brand of pizza that was good enough that I’ll recommend it on this blog: American Flatbread Pizza.

Sushi Sam’s

November 17th, 2007

FoodSan Mateo (where we live) has a handful of pretty good Japanese restaurants, and probably the best known is Sushi Sam’s. We don’t go there too often as it tends to be really crowded with a fair wait. But last night we took the chance and as usual, I left satisfied.

Stangelini’s Italian Deli

October 3rd, 2007

FoodA few weekends ago we walked to the Burlingame Farmer’s Market (ought to make that a regular activity) and on the way back, stopped by Stangelini’s Italian Deli which is a few blocks away from our apartment. It’s a pretty retro Italian corner store, but they do make some killer sandwiches and a homemade lasagna.

Television Notes: Kitchen Nightmares

September 24th, 2007

TelevisionKitchen Nightmares stars abrasive chef Gordon Ramsay where the set-up is failing restaurants in dire need of professional help. I guess this show has been running in Britain for a while and this is its first season in America. Chef Ramsay has a blunt and slightly rude style where he swears profusely and berates the proprietors - chefs all the way down to wait-staff - and implements his plan to save a different restaurant each week from ruin.

Bombay Ice Creamery

September 4th, 2007

FoodSo… once again I don’t usually write about food, but this past weekend we visited one of my vices of San Francisco: Indian ice cream. More specifically, there’s a hole-in-the-wall type joint near 16th and Valencia in the Mission called “Bombay Ice Creamery“.

Food Notes: Sancho’s Taqueria

Plate Lunch in the Bay Area

July 3rd, 2006

FoodPretty nice article in the Chronicle about plate lunch in the Bay Area. Having grown up in Hawaii, I certainly have a soft spot for the two scoops rice and island meat meal.

Random Stuff: Frjtz

June 2nd, 2006

FoodBeen posting probably way too much about the MacBook and bottle caps so maybe for a change of pace, I’ll describe Frjtz’s, this place I had lunch at. It’s in Ghirahdeli Square, near Fisherman’s Wharf, where I work.
