Cautionary Blog Advertising Tales

September 25th, 2007

BlogsHere are two posts regarding the subject of blog advertising that I found interesting:

David Airey who believes his blog is being penalized by Google in their search results as the result of a few paid links. The item of contention seems to be the lack of “nofollow” on said paid links, implying that his site was giving an SEO benefit to them for cash.

WordPress 2.3 Has Tags

September 23rd, 2007

WordpressWordPress 2.3 is slated for release this coming Monday, Sept. 24. It has several new features but one that deserves particular note are tags - words that help add some meaning to the subjects of your posts.

For quite a while I’ve been using a plug in that creates Technorati tags and have been considering ditching them as I don’t get much traffic from Technorati and I’m on a quest to declutter this blog. Now with WordPress 2.3 supporting tags internally I’m thinking I’ll just move over to that system.

Technorati Redesigns… Again

September 11th, 2007

TechnologyHmm, not sure about this Technorati front page redesign, since they did one only a few months ago. At that time it seemed they were going for a more mainstream approach, hiding their blog content sources and promoting videos and their WTF service.

General Webomatica Update

September 7th, 2007

WebomaticaEvery few weeks, I do a quick assessment of the general direction this blog is headed. I’m quite satisfied with its current progress and everything above and beyond recently has been icing on the cake. However, there are still some areas for improvement.

Why A Blogger’s Union Won’t Fly

September 2nd, 2007

TechnologyThis subject is rather old, but I figure I should get this post out there since it’s been hanging out in draft form for quite some time. Let me state that I do think unions are valuable and have their place. Here’s how I see unions forming and why they’re important:

Link Sharing 8/31/07, August Top Commentators

August 31st, 2007

WebomaticaBecause I installed the top commentators plug in to reset monthly, I think each month I’ll mention the visitors that commented most, for what it’s worth. This is something I’ve noticed other blogs do, namely the Generation X Finance blog which I recently discovered and have been enjoying.

Annoying IE Bug: Creeping Text

August 30th, 2007

Web DesignBut in regards to Internet Explorer and “creeping text”: The site looks dandy in Firefox and Safari, but I always hold my breath when it comes to Internet Explorer on a PC. So I checked out few pages and noticed this annoying problem in the comments - basically everything was slowly edging to the left, to the point where the text was appearing off the side of the page.

My 1,000th Post

August 18th, 2007

WebomaticaWoohoo. Hard to believe, but this is post number 1,000.

I think this blog is now about a year and a half old and it’s been an entertaining ride.

Highlights: Three front page diggs, links from Valleywag / Techmeme / various others, iPhone correspondent in the field, writing for the Blog Herald, contests, funny / unique responses to posts.

Lowlights: Disparaging comments, scads of spam, site going down, fatigue.
