So the aforementioned side project has moved onto a different phase – the hapless spouse and I just closed on a house, and entered the ranks of middle class indentured servitude for the the next few decades at least.

The experience was totally stressful and not something I wish to repeat anytime soon. But the blog-appropriate angle is how much easier it was due to technology. Redfin, Zillow, and PortlandMaps provide all kinds of listing information. The iDevices with email and phone were essential to keeping in touch with everyone, plus taking pictures / notes for future reference. A lot of the document signing was done electronically. All our accounts had digital statements available when it came time to beg for money. And there are how-tos of all sorts online for every step of the process for whenever we got confused (which was sadly, rather often). I can’t imagine what this whole process was like before the Internet as an additional resource.

Anyhow, hopefully the blog hiatus ends soon. Already contemplating some future geek projects now that we finally have our own space.
