On iTunes 11

November 29, 2012

Apple just released a new version of iTunes; fiddling with it now.

It’s definitely a lot faster. I’d gotten used to churning when loading app icons. Now thumbnails for movies, albums, and apps appear nearly instantly.

At first, I didn’t really like the top menu bar with the different sections, but now I see its similarity to Safari’s bookmarks bar. And the button to get back out of a particular area (iTunes Store, an iDevice, “done”) always appears as a discrete button at the far right.

Playlists and the left sidebar, traditionally filled with small icons, are no longer omnipresent and appear in their own section (Music -> Playlists). Cover Flow also seems entirely gone.

Nice touch: click on an album cover and a “tray” appears, using colors based on the album art.
