Hulu Plus Coming Soon To Netflix / Roku Box
Although I still love our Netflix / Roku box, I’m pretty sure it will be replaced this weekend with the introduction of the new Apple TV, because, obviously, the new Apple TV plays Netflix Watch Instantly content, rending the Netflix / Roku box relatively obsolete. And Roku surely felt the same way, as they dropped the prices on their entire line-up to undercut the $99 Apple TV price.
Well, there may be a reason to hold onto that Netflix / Roku box a little longer, as a partnership with Hulu was announced through a new Hulu Plus channel. Hulu isn’t on the Apple TV and is the sole reason why we still have a Mac Mini hooked up to the TV.
The only wrinkle is the service is specifically Hulu Plus — implying a monthly paid subscription is required. I’ve also heard the selection on Hulu Plus isn’t all that great or even comparable to standard “Hulu-Free” which for bone-headed reasons — still plays the most content on PCs only. Hulu wants us to pay extra to watch their content (and ads) on iPhones, iPads, and now Roku boxes, which to the end consumer, is pretty lame. Especially when Netflix Watch Instantly has no such device-specific restrictions.
Eh, the Netflix / Roku box is still in danger of being unplugged.
