Thoughts On Apple TV (iTV) Rumors
Rumor of a long-awaited Apple TV refresh.
- Storage of only 16GB doesn’t bug me. The current Apple TV in our entertainment system has nothing on stored on it; all content is streamed from the Mac Mini. The occasional iTunes movie rental takes a few GB at most.
- That said, please retain the media bridge functionality, and the ability to rent the occasional movie from iTunes.
- Adding iOS style apps: awesome. Already have tons of apps for the iPhone and iPad, keeping with the similar pattern of one-purchase, sync to all your devices, all should work on the iTV which equals instant hours of entertainment.
- iOS apps also opens up the whole content-licensing game to app developers. Apple couldn’t quite figure out how to make a mainstream product of Apple TV with the inherent conflict between streaming services and iTunes; opening things up to developers and maybe one of them will write a killer app.
- Price: $99. Just under my personal WTH price.
- 720p is disappointing.
- Last request: Compatibility with the Magic Trackpad.
To sum up, if the Apple TV costs only $99, retains the media bridge functionality, movie rentals, and adds iOS apps, I’ll upgrade, and overlook the 720 limitation. It’ll be fun to play The Incident and Osmos on a big screen, perhaps controlled by an iPhone.
Nothing beats the impact of a large cinema screen from Big Screen Hire when you want to: create maximum impact, entertain your community, increase advertising effectiveness, give promotions extra presence, pull crowds. Big Screen Hire can turn every presentation or gathering into a special event!
Forgive me if I’m being stupid, but isn’t the current model limited to 720p?
I’m about 99% positive the current Apple TV outputs to 1080i if not p. I’ll check the settings tonight. iTunes movie / tv show downloads are 720p however.
Ah, it will output photos etc. in 1080p to the TV, but it will only play 720p movies — mine rejects anything above that.
