On Not Preordering an iPad

March 2nd, 2010

Rumor has it, Apple begins iPad pre-orders March 7, with a ship date of Friday, April 2.

That said, am not going to pre-order. Seems necessary to fiddle with this particular product in person before pulling the trigger. See how light it is, play around with the touch screen, try out the keyboard, etc. The iPad isn’t as easy of a sell as the iPhone or a new MacBook. With that in mind, really hope Apple displays some iPads at Apple Stores well before the ship date.

I won’t pre-order, but only because I’m the kind of idiot that will wait in line on day 1. I can’t see the lines being nearly as bad as the iPhone, only because there’s no activation required. So the bigger fear will be that they run out.

I don’t recall Apple having iPhones in the store before they went on sale officially. I’m guessing they won’t, but on day 1, I expect a few blue shirts to be walking around with one for people to try.

    • Waiting in line… that’s dedication. As the day gets closer and the anticipation seeps in, might decide to stop by a store the first day. Did that with the iPhone 3G.

I guess this means you’re foregoing the 3G iPad? Or are you going to trade up when that model comes out?

I was hoping they’d be on sale before April 2nd as I’ll be in Orlando for a fortnight until then and Apple products in the US are roughly 25% than the UK at the current exchange rate.

    Oh well.
