iPhone App: Dark Nebula

= 4 stars
Navigate a metal ball through a futuristic, obstacle-ridden maze.
The Good
- Simple controls: Control metal ball by tipping the iPhone side to side. The ball movement is responsive yet slightly delayed, simulating momentum and inertia, lending the ball a satisfying heft.
- The rest of the game is provided through thoughtful level design (essentially, a vertically-scrolling maze) and obstacle variety: oscillating walls that push your ball, colored gates where you must “charge” your ball with the same color to pass through, instant death through spinning spikes or holes where you fall through the maze to your doom, trampolines to bounce your ball over gaps, and even small circles that must be nudged into place in order to open doors.
- Graphics are detailed and expertly done, simulating a futuristic factory complex.
The Bad
- My own personal taste: wish the ball had a laser gun or bombs to set off. Pew pew pew.
Conclusion
Dark Nebula is a satisfying, well-executed variation on the ball-in-a-maze game. Recommended.
