Netflix Makes Subscribing To Content Hard

November 24th, 2009

I used the Wall Street Journal iPhone app regularly… until articles moved behind a pay wall. The current offer works out to $10 a month.

Almost needless to say, I haven’t gotten around to signing up and it’s doubtful it will happen.

It seems everything subscription related, I compare to Netflix, which is a really awesome deal. For about $10 a month, you get unlimited rentals and Watch Instantly of movies and tv shows from all the major studios.

I’d pay $10 a month for access to several newspapers and magazines on the iPhone, but just one (wsj) seems ridiculous. And from my perspective, print media is in competition with not only blogs but also television and movies. I want the most bang for my buck.

I’m willing to pay for content, but the price has got to have an awareness of what other entertainment options are out there. In the wsj case, over pricing of content seems yet another way the print industry looks out of touch.
