Interesting: ClickToFlash

ClickToFlash is a Safari add-on for that disallows Flash embeds from playing until you click on them.
The Good
- I’ve noticed the processor on my MacBook really revs up any time I visit a Flash-heavy web page. Therefore, using ClickToFlash means less fan-blasting, leading to longer battery life.
- To view a Flash element, one click is all you need to activate it, a good compromise between Flash overload and uninstalling Flash completely. After a click or two, videos on Hulu (which uses Flash extensively) played without any problems.
- Also acts as an ad blocker; you may be surprised to see how many ads use Flash.
- Flash areas appear with a pleasing gradient and no disruption to the page layout of any sites I checked out.
The Bad
- N/A.
Conclusion
After using ClickToFlash for a few days I’d recommend everyone give it a whirl. I haven’t missed Flash as much as I thought I would.
Been using it since it came out (before Rentzsch took over development), and I’m really pleased with it for all of the same reasons.
I’ve whitelisted maps.google.com, since it doesn’t seem to work correctly with ClickToFlash.
Yeah this plug in has already cooled down the MacBook. Thanks for the tip about Google Maps.
