Speedcine: Learn What Movies Are On Which Service, Fast

September 29th, 2009

Speedcine

Speedcine is a new website that’s already bookmarked, as it addresses a very specific problem I’ve often encountered — and succeeds. Here’s the 140 character pitch:

Name a movie. Speedcine will tell you what Internet-based video services (Apple iTunes, Hulu, Netflix Watch Instantly, Amazon) it’s available on.

I’ve desired this information quite regularly, whenever perusing iTunes video rental choices via the Apple TV. There’s always a moment of hesitation, because why spend $2.99 if the same flick is available for free (well, with subscription fee) via Netflix Watch Instantly and the Roku Box. That’s $2.99 I can then pocket and spend on an iPhone game. And Apple TV isn’t going to tell me if something is available on Netflix Watch Instantly or Hulu.

Anyhow, you’ll figure out how to use the site within seconds, and the result is a box complete with links to get your video goodness.

Bonus: You can type in director’s names and get a list of movies, some indicated “free” in red. Gee, The 39 Steps is available on Hulu. Sweet, I did not know that. Thanks Speedcine!
