iPhone App: Geodefense Swarm

= 5 stars
Tower defense style game where you set up various armed towers to prevent a long sequence of enemies from reaching an exit.
The Good
- Baddies are no longer limited to a predetermined path and can now wander freely, adding the strategic element of wall-building to route the enemies in particular directions. The placement isn’t totally free form but instead, a nice compromise: a hexagonal, honeycomb board.
- Even more variety added through additional towers (thump tower) and special hexagons (ones that speed up or heal baddies). Some hexagons are off limits to place towers on.
- Level design is top notch, each presenting a new challenge to ponder. After blazing through the “easy” levels, I’m now tantalizingly trapped on the medium ones.
- Amazingly low price of $0.99. Act now.
The Bad
- The sort of mind-numbing entertainment that causes one to miss their bus stop, skip meals, forget significant others’ birthdays, or severely neglect that Mad Men blog post you’ve been meaning to write.
Conclusion
I was skeptical the developers could improve upon the already excellent geoDefense, but an already awesome game was somehow made even more so. Even if you aren’t interested in “yet another tower defense game” — this one is worth a shot. Highly recommended.
[…] Although not really my style, GloBall is a moderately fun game, providing passable entertainment. That said, I shall continue playing geoDefense Swarm. […]
