Feeling Nostalgic For Uh, 2001? 5GB iPod Available

August 20th, 2009

For some reason, you can now purchase a 5GB iPod — white with a physical scroll wheel, black and white screen, and four buttons — for $129 at the Apple store.

If my memory serves correctly, this model came out around 2001, when Web 1.0 .com was imploding. I hazily recall sitting in a cubicle with a blue G3 Mac still running OS 9, reading about this iPod thing and wondering if Apple had lost its marbles getting into the MP3 business.

I won’t be getting this iPod, but it does have me wishing there was an iPhone App that simulated past iPods. Apple can you get cracking on that, please? I’ll pay 99 cents.

Update: I guess Apple is actually selling the second gen, 10 GB model from 2002. Still retro, me thinks.

If this had been the ORIGINAL 5GB iPod, I might have been interested. I often wish I hadn’t sold my original iPod. I usually don’t hang on to old relics of technology. But that one was a piece of history.

am now feeling a bit nostalgic and wondering what other Apple kit I should have held onto. The 7100, Purple iMac, and graphite “toilet seat” iBook are all history.

Better check the sofa cushions for those missing iPod Shuffles…
