iPhone App: Daxhotel

= 4 stars
Episode guide for the Star Trek television show in all its incarnations.
The Good
- Turns your iPhone into a Star Trek reference, a precursor to a futuristic LCARS PADD. Personally, the subject of Star Trek comes up in every day life that this app has some utility. One can now answer “what was the name of the episode where Kirk fights the Gorn” (Arena) or which episode of the animated series was a reprise of Shore Leave (Once Upon A Planet) — using your iPhone.
- Lots of images for each episode.
- Information is downloaded from the Star Trek website so it’s accurate.
The Bad
- On first launch, the app downloads all the content, which takes a substantial amount of time. Using WiFi for this stage is a must.
- Doesn’t include the Star Trek movie franchise.
- No video clips.
- Would be awesome if it had character and actor info, and cross referencing.
- Needs a search function. As it is, you have to find information by scrolling through episode thumbnails and relying on your own memory.
- Only useful for Trekkies.
Conclusion
Depending on how much of Trek fan you are, this app is either totally useful or a complete waste of time. In my case, it’s the former, and therefore, a highly logical and fascinating download.
