Something Cranky’s Going On
April 30th, 2009
Blogger Steven Hodson has made a name for himself, providing wary skepticism and cranky annoyance at shiny new things in tech. He’s been busy, recently re-branding his WinExtra blog as Shooting At Bubbles, while writing for Duncan Riley’s Inquisitr.
Now it seems he’ll be busier than ever – Hodson joins Mark “Rizzin” Hopkins and Sean P. Aune (two former Mashable bloggers) to form the Cynical Bastards Network. There’s a primary website where all three are contributors.
But the real news: the trio is producing a podcast under the banner of “CobWeb.” The first episode hit the air yesterday, and it’s an entertaining listen. They provide a valid critique of the FriendFeed redesign, plus some interesting thoughts on how social media could be used in more constructive ways (say, cut through government bureaucracy) than mere narcissism.
Anyhow, they have at least one loyal listener – a sharp dose of “Sorry, that’s just bullsh*t” is a good counter to the whatever Web 2.0 start up Oprah is hyping these days.
Glad you enjoyed it. I am sure there will be much more crankiness from the three of us in future episodes
