iPhone App: Bowman

= 4 stars
Help an archer hit various targets with his trusty bow and arrow.
The Good
- Multitouch is used to draw the bow back and release. Your drag distance determines the tension in the bow, and your angle from the starting point the tilt of the arrow. Lift your finger to release, and gravity takes over. It’s satisfyingly simple, and more so when your arcing arrow hits a target.
- Simple, almost stark graphics — your archer and targets are black silhouettes.
- Several different modes add variety through different things to shoot at. You can face off against a computer opponent (setting up an iShoot style situation), or flying birds.
The Bad
- Not sure about the bright red drops of blood that spray out when hit by an arrow. It’s a bit gratuitous and gross.
- Can’t move the archer.
Conclusion
Not as cool as iShoot, but close. Due to the simple set up, I find myself returning to Bowman just like Doodle Jump. At 99 cents, that’s a thumbs up.
Great review, sounds like a fun little app. Now if only I had an IPhone.
