Yeah, that's a good list, of a genere I never got totally into, but I
should because of Hitchcock, and I really liked Sunset Boulevard... I've
already seen Sunset Boulevard, Maltese Falcon and Chinatown, and have The
Big Sleep and Double Indemnity ready to go. But I'll add the others for the
future. Thanks!

Jason, you should go on a Film Noir bender... I promised you a list of my absolute favorites (that I've seen! -- there are so many films in this genre). Unfortunately, I could not put a few of my favorites on this list that I've seen, since they are not available on DVD (!!!!). But these you'll have no problem getting a copy of. It includes a few Neo-Noir movies (those done in the style of noir, but produced after the heydey of Hollywood's noir era). Mylist is listed based on order of priority viewing:

1. Night of the Hunter
2. Sunset Boulevard
3. Laura
4. The Big Sleep
5. Gilda
6. Touch of Evil
7. Body Heat
8. Maltese Falcon
9. Mildred Pierce
10. Chinatown
11. The Third Man
12. Double Indemnity

I'm glad you responded; I was wondering what sort of movies you'd
suggest. Never heard of Finder's Fee, The Chocolate War, or Brick, so
those will go in the queue right away. I had mixed feelings about
Akeelah & The Bee, but I agree, Fishburne was the best part of that
movie.

Primer - it was on Netflix Watch Instantly so I started it up, but as
you mention, I got really confused and put the film on pause, never to
return. With your recommendation I'll give it another go.

Jason, sometimes I like to wander way off of the mainstream...

Didya ever see Jeff Probst's Finder's Fee? Yup, the Sruvivor host Jeff Probst. It's kind of a "day in the life" story that covers the course of a single day's events and it could almost be a play due to the way it's shot almost entirely in a single setting. Great stuff!

Also, here's another off-the-beaten-track option - The Chocolate War. This is a bit of an older movie, but has a number of actors who have gone on to do more recognizable stuff. It's a quirky and clever tale about a school's fundraising efforts gone really wrong

And I might recommend Brick for an interesting teen-movie spin on hard-boiled 40s film noir. Very inventive!

Ya can't go wrong with Akeelah & the Bee. Laurence Fishburne turns in a subdued, anti-Morpheus performance that'll restore your faith in his acting chops.

Lastly, Primer is a hard science, take-no-prisoners, keep up if ya can, sci fi movie with virtually no special effects yet it'll blow you away if you tough it out. The first few minutes are really confusing, like you just walked in on an in-progress conversation and the guys talking can't be bothered to catch you up to speed.
