Boxee Remote

Boxee Remote is a remote control app for controlling an installation of Boxee.

The Good

  • Works as advertised. After launching, it immediately recognized my Apple TV running Boxee connected to the same WiFi network, as well as Boxee running on a MacBook. I was able to switch between controlling either installation from within the remote app.
  • There are two interfaces, a standard button one and a more unique “gesture” interface where you drag a Boxee icon around the touch screen. While the latter is a music, I prefer the former. Both interfaces are responsive.
  • A “Now Playing” button brings up a thumbnail of the currently playing program on your iPhone. Pretty slick.

The Bad

  • Crashed a few times when Boxee on my Apple TV failed the loading of a Hulu stream. Luckily, the app boots up quickly so I was able to return to where I was in not much time.

Conclusion

If you’re running Boxee on a Mac or Apple TV and have an iPhone, you simply must to try out this remote app for Boxee. It provides yet another fun way to interact with your favorite media player. Plus, it’s free.
