iPhone App: Adventure

= 4 stars
Adventure is an iPhone port of the Atari 2600 console game Adventure. Instead of a plastic joystick, your heroic square is moved using the iPhone’s tilt control.
The Good
- As far as I can tell, this is an exact port. It features the same, limited color palette colored castles, colored keys, a sword (that looks like an arrow), a bridge that lets you traverse walls, and dragons (that look like ducks).
- The iPhone tilt control works better than I thought it would. There are options to set the tilt angle.
- Two buttons marked select and reset in the upper left mimic the Atari 2600 switches.
- Your hands won’t cramp up from squeezing a tortuously inflexible black rubber joystick.
The Bad
- Playing this game had me remembering how simple the games were back in the late seventies. There’s no background music, you’re often pathetically on the run from the duck-dragons, and it requires a certain sort of imagination to get into that your hero is a square.
Conclusion
Anybody who used to play Adventure as a kid would enjoy a trip down memory lane. And the best part — it won’t cost you a dime. This app is free.
