iPhone App: Cat Piano

= 4 stars
Cat Piano provides you with a vitrual keyboard which plays samples of cat meows. The cat sounds are more or less tuned to the pitches of the keyboard.
The Good
- A decent variety of patches: Angelic Meow, Asthma Kitty, Forlorn, Furball, Furious, House Cat, and The Warbler. Meow Mix 1 and 2 combine all the different meow samples on one keyboard. There’s also a Grand Piano patch so you get a regular piano with this app.
- The keyboard is polyphonic meaning you can do simple chords.
- If you set a song playing on the iPhone’s iPod and then laung Cat Piano, you can play along to your own music collection. Honestly, this can be extremely entertaining.
The Bad
- If you get too crazy with the meows, you overwhelm the iPhone speaker.
- The quality of the meow sounds isn’t that great. I tried all of them on our two cats and they weren’t fooled after a few warbles.
Conclusion
I’ve had more fun than I thought I would with Cat Piano, primarially as an noveltey but also as an annoyance to cat lovers and cat tolerators alike. It’s killer use is to play along with the car radio or songs on your iPhone. I’ve gotten my 99 cents worth and then some.
