Apple Needs To Release New Hardware If Only To Kill Pathetic Speculation
February 20th, 2009
I haven’t written much about Apple recently, because, well, there hasn’t been anything worth writing about. Which had me realizing, several hardware updates that seemed like sure things for MacWorld still haven’t shown up yet. The iMac, Mac Mini, and Apple TV lines all seem sorely overdue for upgrades.
All three are products I’d buy, and all three are contingent on each other. If a new Apple TV comes out, that will impact whether I move our current Mac Mini to the entertainment system and buy an iMac for the desktop instead.
But in the absence of anything new from Apple, speculation continues, and it’s reached a strange point where people are just grasping at anything Apple-related to get excited about. The other day we had a photo of the back of a supposed new Mac Mini with 5 USB ports. It’s a ridiculous concept just based on the overkill of 5 USB ports, but still, Mac fanatics feel it’s necessary to debunk it with image analysis, which is amusing, but also has me realizing how dry the Mac news space is when this is what passes for news. I agree with Technologizer when they say this is might be the most boring Apple rumor ever.
Then there’s an article over at VentureBeat mentioning how Microsoft posted an image of a leopard in the snow over at Microsoft Live. Of course, “snow leopard” is the name of Apple’s upcoming update to Mac OS X which we haven’t gotten much news about, either. So very quickly, a few rumors popped up regarding the possibility of some partnership between Microsoft and Apple.
Now that rumor is definitely not boring but it’s frankly quite pathetic. Background images are now fueling rumors. So can we make something of John Hodgman’s apperance in last week’s episode of Battlestar Galactica?
Apple, please release some new hardware soon. There are only so many articles about Woz being on Dancing with the Stars this Apple fanboy can take.
Seriously. What's taking so long w/ the new iMac? I'm anxious to buy one, but I know the second I do they'll release the new one, and it'll be so close in cost to the existing model that I'll have to shoot someone. At the very least release the new one so I can decide if I want it, or buy a decreased-price current gen model.
Yep – as mentioned above I might get an iMac or a new Mac Mini – it all depends on which line is refreshed with what. Every tuesday I cross my fingers that this will be the week, and so far it's been a bit of a let down.
exactly, great post.
loved reading it, keep up the good work
