Thanks To Wrongsmith, I Don’t Have To Post About Songsmith Anymore

January 31st, 2009

The musical destruction that Songsmith continues to dispense can now be tracked on one site: Wrongsmith. They’re collecting all the offensive videos in one handy place, kind of like the bad bank that collects toxic assets.

But as a parting shot here are three more truly egregious examples of this musical software thuggery: Radiohead’s Creep, Weezer’s Buddy Holly, and A-ha’s Take On Me.

Radiohead’s Creep sounds like Thom is now backed by the worst line-dancing bar band in the universe. Love how they completely fall apart when Thom goes for the high notes (2:30).

Weezer’s happy-go-lucky song Buddy Holly is transformed into a minor key dirge that would make Pat Morita cry. I couldn’t even get through this one.

A-ha’s 80s classic Take On Me is slightly better, because the original had cheesy keyboards, but once the melody starts, it’s obvious Songsmith can’t keep up with the changes. The end result is yet another reminder why you want to buy a Mac, get Garageband, and let Sting teach you how to play guitar. At least he has some air of legitimacy beyond the tantric-sex rumors.

Okay, I’ll stop now. Please consult Wrongsmith for your future Songsmith needs.

Wow. Thanks for introducing me to this bit of hilarity.

I listened to the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on Wrongsmith. It's like something went horribly, horribly wrong. It's like being in a parallel dimension of weirdness. Very funny stuff.

Holy crap, I just listened to Michael Jackson's “Beat It”. It was completely awesome. I think I may need to go back to drugs for Songsmith…it's that freaking amazing.
