Apple Rumor Round Up: iMac Refresh, Mac Mini Ad, Mighty Mouse Touch
December 21st, 2008

It’s that time of the year… no, not Christmas, I mean MacWorld, which starts January 5th, 2009. As expected, the Apple rumor mill is just now switching into overdrive. I’ve read a few rumors in the past few days which I’ll respond to.
iMac Refresh: Engadget reports that a poster on the InsanelyMac forums found some MacBook code referring to newer iMacs and Mac Minis. Refreshes to both products are due, at minimum upgraded hardware (adding the NVidia graphics chips that are currently in the MacBooks) and at best, a new form factor.
Mac Mini ad: Macenstein posts a blurry photo of an ad, depicting the new Mac Mini as all-aluminum like the new MacBooks, with the tagline: The world’s smallest desktop computer. I call shenanigans. First off, it’s hard to tell if this Mac Mini has a lid, and if so, what would be the point of that? Easier RAM upgrades? Regardless, Apple wouldn’t create such a vague photo. Second, the tag line is too matter of fact, without the usual inventive wordplay. Mac Mini update: yes, amateurish ad: no.
Mighty Mouse Touch: Now here’s a product on the fence of probability. I personally feel the current Mighty Mouse with its little trackball is one of the worst Apple products ever - I got cramps using it, and then the ball jammed up and I couldn’t keep it clean. I eventually gave up and am now using a much better Logitech mouse. So, I’d be totally jazzed if Apple released a better Mighty Mouse, and the icing on the cake would be incorporation of the multitouch trackpad technology used on the MacBooks. Therefore, this rumor from MacBlogz of an updated, touchpad mouse makes a lot of sense. I’d prefer a touchpad mouse over a touchscreen monitor, plus the lack of moving parts solves the whole clogging trackball issue. I hope it happens.
So at this point, it’s highly likely MacWorld will bring us updated iMacs and Mac Minis, and I’d love to see a new Mighty Mouse.
Dont forget the iPhone Nano…. hehehe
