Synopsis

Inspired by the movie Super Size Me, Stand up comedian Doug Benson decides to smoke pot for thirty days straight, measure the effects on his body, and investigate the debate over medicinal marijuana.

The Good

• In preparation to his month of pot-smoking, Benson abstains for 30 days beforehand. This first half is actually as interesting if not more so, than the second half, as Benson complains that things “aren’t as fun” while clear-headed.
• Benson’s night-job is stand up comedy, and we get an amusing backstage look at this profession that allows you to be stoned all day. Greg Proops and Sara Silverman appear briefly.
• During Benson’s binge, he undergoes tests to measure the effects of too much weed. The results are actually hilarious – he does better on an SAT test and become “more psychic.” I won’t totally spoil the ending but let’s just say Benson has a much better time than Spurlock (Super Size Me) did.
• Some investigation into medicinal marijuana and the associated oddballs clustering around that surreal scene.

The Bad

• To be fair, the flick is actually backwards – since Benson’s normal state is being stoned (although not to this excess) – it would have been more of a challenge to star someone who had never smoked pot beforehand.

Conclusion

Super High Me is surpsingly funny, and even received a “contact high” during viewing. Thumbs up.
