Pulled All The Google Ads: Vote No On Measure 8

November 4th, 2008

Yep, that’s why this blog looks a little sparse ad-wise — yesterday I nuked all the Google ads, because instead of the usual shilling of Battlestar Galactica ring tones and Baby Mama promos, they had all changed to “Yes on Measure 8″ advertisements — a stance I disagree with. This Yes on 8 Google ad campaign was noted by Laughing Squid, Paris Lemon, and TechCrunch.

It’s a rather sneaky tactic from the Yes on Measure 8 folks and a bit silly seeing how Google themselves are against Measure 8. Basically, Google is serving up ads they have publicly come out against.

This is the first time I’ve ever been offended enough by an advertisement to take it off this blog. For what it’s worth, I don’t depend on the money generated from these ads — this blog is a hobby. Because of this, I have the luxury to pull them in a heartbeat if need be. Yesterday was one of those days.

Yeah I’m pretty annoyed with Google about this. We use adsense on fanpop and got inundated with that crap too :-(

Half of me wanted to run ‘em and commit click fraud to run up their tab!

I had to do this as well, and it’s unfortunate. I think all political Google ads should have been opt in. I’m also in the same boat as Papa, and gave them a few useless clicks for good measure before removing the ads. Let’s just hope the tactic doesn’t work!

its so annoying how sometimes Google puts ads you dont freaking want. and it takes awhile for them to be pulled down.
