What’s Going To Happen On The Season 2 Mad Men Finale?
Although I’ve just started writing in-depth posts on Mad Men, working my way through season one — I’m current with the show and have been watching the season 2 episodes as they air. So tomorrow is the season finale of season 2, and I’m currently chomping at the bit as to what will happen. The following are some of my predictions / desires:
Predictions
- Don Draper’s state will be a cliffhanger. He won’t return to New York and his return will be placed definitely in doubt — maybe he’ll get in a classic car and wind up in a life-threatening car accident. That could link up to the show title “Meditations In An Emergency” — also the title of the book Don sent to the first Mrs. Draper that’s he’s visiting right now.
- Something has got to happen to join Peggy’s child and the Pete / Trudy adoption thread. Not sure if it will be as disturbing as Pete adopting his own child, but something that at least points out more bluntly the irony of Pete / Trudy struggling to adopt while his own child is unwanted.
- The timing might be right for another Kennedy political reference, say the Cuban missile crisis.
- I think Betty had a miscarriage. Or, really neat would be some disease that explains her nervous tremors back in season one.
- I don’t think Sterling Cooper will be sold. Bertram Cooper seemed rather uneasy about the whole thing in the last episode. Something could happen that submarines the merger. Another heart attack?
Hopes
Reviewing all that happened throughout season 2, here are some of my hopes in terms of favorite tidbits that could be revisited:
- Salvatore Romano: I really enjoyed repressed homosexuality of the episode where Salvatore and his wife invited Ken over for dinner. More of that with extra Parmesan, please.
- What was the deal with Joan’s roommate, Carol?
- The return of the guitar playing Father, John Gill.
- Herman “Duck” Phillips may try to completely sabotage Sterling Cooper.
- I miss Midge and her beatnik pals.
- Paul’s involvement in the civil rights movement gets him into trouble.
Anyhow, that’s what I’m hoping for. Any thoughts from aspiring copy writers, I’m all ears.
