Interesting: Please Fix The iPhone!

October 22nd, 2008

After using my iPhone for a few months on a daily basis, I’ve gathered a handful of minor quibbles with the otherwise very cool product.

Bubbilicious pointed me to the site Please Fix the iPhone! which has a listing of people’s gripes and a simple voting interface. Just click “Me Too!” next to any of the gripes to have your say.

Here are some interesting gripes on the site:

And here’s my short list of iPhone gripes:

  • Copy and paste.
  • Flash in Safari.
  • The “landscape” mode isn’t available in all programs, most notably Mail.
  • MSM text messages.
  • My battery life is still woefully inadequate (and yes, I have everything except 3G turned off).
  • Reception is occasionally poor.
  • Safari locks up and crashes regularly.

Anyhow, if you have an iPhone, visit Please Fix the iPhone! - perhaps someone at Apple will check it out and brief El Jobso.

With my MobileMe account, I do pretty much synch without wires. The only time I absolutely need to plug in my iPhone to the computer is when I want to upload music or video, which would be way too slow over Bluetooth. Could work over WiFi, but I don't see it as a major need.

There WAS an app on the app store called NetShare that allowed you to tether your iPhone to your Mac. Luckily, I snagged it before Apple removed it, so I can still do this. But AT&T is not going to allow this use of data anytime soon. Blame this one on the network, not Apple. And yes, we'd have the same restriction if the iPhone were on Verizon's network.

Shortcuts to phone numbers? Cool idea. Not sure it's that much easier than double tapping home and then tapping my girlfriend's number from my favorites list, especially if her icon is several wipes away on my Springboard, but if some people want it, why not?

I agree on most of your wish list. Except for Flash. I don't want Flash to come within 300 yards of my iPhone. I want Flash dead as soon as possible. And my Safari almost never crashes, but I don't access many sites beyond standard news sites from Google Reader. I'm guessing your mileage may vary greatly depending on where you surf. Is that a Safari problem, or a bad code from a crappy web designer problem? Hard to know.
  • Mobile Me is cool.....but you can't sync any other address except for the mobile me email address.
