Starring Parker Posey, Drea DiMatteo, Melvil Poupaud
Directed by Zoe R. Cassavettes
Synopsis
Nora Wilder (Parker Posey) is unhappy in New York, growing older and unable to meet anyone remotely worthy, until she meets Parisian Julian (Melvil Poupaud).
The Good
- Parker Posey, eschewing quirk and comedy. She consistently keys in on the underlying emotion of every scene and delivers.
- Lots of nutty outfits.
The Bad
- The ending is a complete rip off of After Sunset after a lot of aimless meandering about, both plot wise and literally.
- This is one of “those flicks” where the trailer covers 90% of what happens. Please don’t watch it beforehand.
Conclusion
There’s really only one reason to see Broken English: Parker Posey. If you’re a die-hard Posey fan (guilty…) it’s a solid 4 stars. Shame everything else doesn’t rise to the occasion. Did I mention Parker Posey?
