Rumor: Apple “Brick”
Now that purple iPod Nanos are behind us, what else can the Mac faithful do but speculate on what’s next from Apple. Mac Rumors floats a rumor regarding a new Apple product code named “Brick.” It is most likely related to a MacBook refresh, but it could be a completely unrelated product. The release date could be as soon as October.
The rumor becomes more amusing when one tries to explain the meaning of the code name. The usual interpretation of a “brick” in consumer electronics is a “power brick” which implies a boxy peripheral, but the more imaginative interpretation is a product that can “break Windows.”
Taking these hints together leads to some highly probable guesses; these were my favorites in the comments:
- Updated Apple TV with Blu-Ray and TiVo.
- “Windows killer” means an update to OS X to let it run Windows apps.
- A Mac Mini update that puts it closer to the MacPro.
- The oft-rumored Mac Tablet.
- A device that works with the MacBook to allows wireless connectivity to power and peripherals, effectively replacing all cables.
Anyhow, it’s basically obvious that nobody has any idea about this rumor. Here’s my hope: it’s a MacBook Mini — basically Apple’s version of the netbook I’ve been drooling over recently.
Any guesses of your own, feel free to hash it out in the comments below.
Hey Jase, will anticipation of this “Brick” product cause you to hold off on the netbook purchase? Or will you dive in regardless?
