iPhone Troubleshooting: Unreadable File Error in iPhoto
I recently ran into a pretty annoying situation with the iPhone. Normally, it’s a breeze importing photos taken on the iPhone using iPhoto. But somewhere, iPhoto got stuck on one photo in particular, saying it was “unreadable.” Problem was, any photo taken after that one, iPhoto refused to import.
I found a fix that worked for me on the MacRumors forums. “~” designates your user folder. I don’t think the Disk Utility steps are totally necessary, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to check your HD often. Also note you’ll have to delete all the photos off your iPhone so you may want to email them all to yourself beforehand.
- Quit iPhoto
- Disk Utility -> Verify Mac HD
- Disk Utility -> Repair Mac HD (2x)
- Delete ~/library/preferences/com.apple.preview.plist
- Delete ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist
- Delete ~/library/preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
- Reboot
- Delete all photos on the iPhone
Now take some new photos with your iPhone and try to import them.
