First iPhone Bill: $170

As a service to those out there who also bought new 3G iPhones and are new to AT&T, I’ll pass on some info about my first bill.

I bought my iPhone on the first day (7/11) and opted for the cheapest plan - 450 minutes ($39.99), iPhone data plan ($30.00), and 200 text messages ($5). All these were pro-rated since the first bill only ran from 11 to the end of the month.

So how did it get to $170? There was a charge for next month of $40, and an activation of $36, and miscellaneous other taxes.

I was expecting the first bill to be higher, but this was a bit “hmmmm.” Thankfully, subsequent months should be much lower.

Also as a side note, I had about 77MB of data transfer, pretty much all random web surfing. Much lower than I thought.

High bill indeed. I guess all the "add-ons" such as the web and text messaging get to add little more o the bill.
PS: 450 minutes/month isn't enough.

Yes, that's a very high bill. Only reason I'm not getting an iPhone.

Wow!! that´s a very high bill, but i know that you are some kind rich and you can afford it. that´s why i dont get a 3g iphone.

When you say that you had 77mb of data transfer which was lower than you thought, did you mean the cost of 77mb tranfser was lower than you thought or that you thought you'd have transfered more data?

i'm curious because I really fancy getting myself a 3g phone but I reckon I'd get hammered cost wise since I really do love surfing.

The price for data is fixed for unlimited data use. I was commenting on the
size of the data I downloaded (MB). Seemed kinda low for how much I was
using the data part of the iPhone. I guess you should look up the pricing
for the data in your country and see if it's a flat rate or pay as you go. I
don't think I'd be into the pay as you go way.

i believe it is really worth it.
you get free wireless internet fun games ,gps, pictures/ camara, music/ ipod and tons of other apps.it also is a really good phone my friends have one and they are awesome phones.

so i say who caress about an bill--pay it and love the phone!!

it is so worth it.
