3G iPhone Madness Begins: iTunes 7.7, FriendFeed Room

July 10th, 2008

This blog will go iPhone / Apple crazy over the next few days as I digest all this new stuff and explode all over my aluminum keyboard. For all the wacky 3G iPhone updates I’ll move to “list” format with short comments.

  • iTunes 7.7 finally showed up. I just installed it on our Mac Mini and the big new thing is an “Applications” area in the Library with a link to the Apple App Store. Another tidbit that has me drooling: if you go into Preferences > Advanced there’s a check box for “Look for iPhone & iPod touch Remotes” meaning you can now use your iPhone or iPod Touch to control iTunes remotely – probably in conjuction with some free app in the App Store.
  • App Store will open today: One cool tidbit – 25% of the apps will be free. I love free. Paul Thurrott has some screen shots of the App Store as seen from the iPhone.
  • There’s a FriendFeed 3G iPhone room: MG Siegler of Venture Beat will be waiting in line at the San Francisco Apple Store on Friday, and posting updates. He did an awesome job at the WWDC keynote a month ago. I’ll use his updates to measure whether or not I’ll buy my iPhone Friday after work or wait until Saturday morning – the key info will be how long the line is and how fast it’s moving.
