Identi.ca: Twitter Alternative

Yeah… so there’s a new web service, Identi.ca, which may prove to be a Twitter replacement. It fills the same microblogging / messaging niche as Twitter - limited to 140 characters, profile pages, and ability to follow and be followed. It’s also open source.
It will take some additional features to catch up to Twitter, but in the works are SMS, an API, automatic URL-shortening, and other stuff.
Here’s my profile page; follow me if you so desire, and I’ll likely follow you back, especially if I recognize you from Twitter or FriendFeed.
And as a public service, here are some of the usual suspects who already have Identi.ca profiles and are now set in my mind as bright-and-early adopters:
