Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse

I finally gave up on the Apple Mighty Mouse because the ridiculous scroll wheel kept getting clogged with dust and would cease functioning. Anyhow, on a recent trip to Fry’s I picked up the Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse because the price was right (ten bucks off, and Bluetooth mice are still more expensive). I’m very pleased with it so far.
The Good
- Mouse has a nice weight.
- Scroll wheel is satisfyingly stable, and also moves left and right.
- It communicates with my Mac Mini via a dongle you plug into a USB port. Not as ideal as Bluetooth, but I haven’t lost a USB port since the Mighty Mouse was plugged into one anyhow.
- Worked right out of the box with no additional software. You can use the standard mouse System Preference section to adjust mouse tracking and scroll speed.
- If you want to further customize your mouse behavior, you can download software at the Logitech website, which installs a control pane where you can assign functions to the various buttons on the mouse. I like having Dashboard available and a “back” button on the mouse as well.

The Bad
- Some might want some additional buttons on their mouse, I’m sure there are other models with more extensive layouts. I personally would have liked a button on the left side as that can be kind of handy.
- The button when you press the scroll wheel down is kind of “tight” and hard to trigger.
- Not having the software on a CD in the package might bug some folks.
Conclusion
A solid mouse, definitely mightier than Apple’s version.
Hi,
You have given very good information about the logitech mouse are very good in terms of quality and price compared with other brand in the market which are much more costly. Thank you for the information.
I have this mouse and think it’s great. The things that made me buy (and I looked at a lot of mice) are the quality finish, the ability to flick the scroll wheel from side-to-side to flick back and forward between web pages and the ambidextrous design (I’m left handed). The only downside is that it probably feels a little too small in my hand, although this is only a minor flaw. Hope this helps anyone who is looking.
