Movie Notes: Dr. Goldfoot And The Bikini Machine

= 1 star
Starring Vincent Price, Frankie Avalon, Susan Hart
Directed by Norman Taurog
Synopsis
Dr. Goldfoot’s (Vincent Price) devious plan is to have bikini-clad female robots seduce world leaders and steal their money. Number 11 (Susan Hart) is sent to reel in millionaire Todd Armstrong (Dwayne Hickman) but accidentally gets mixed up with secret agent Craig Gamble (Frankie Avalon). Hilarity ensues.
The Good
- Quite camp-tastic premise, equal parts spy (Gold-”foot”, get it?) and horror parody, which is all a cover for showing pretty women in shiny swimsuits.
The Bad
- A slightly sexist and sadistic streak which just makes one shake their head at the innocent chauvinism of decades past.
- Things soon devolve into slapstick and stupidity.
Conclusion
This film is infamous for reuniting several folks from the Beach Party flicks, helped inspire Austin Powers, and was directed by Norman Taurog of Elvis’s cinematic meanderings. All this information surrounding the film is better than the movie itself. The trailer provides all the cheesy camp you need.
I will nobly skip the sequel, Dr. Goldfoot And The Girl Bombs, which is said to be even worse.
