DiskWarrior 4: Good To Have

Here’s a plug for DiskWarrior. It’s a utility for the Mac which rebuilds a corrupted disk directory.
Ever since switching to OS X way back when, I have experienced disk directory corruption a few times which rendered my Mac useless. In those cases, one day the Mac will start up and never get to the desktop. Sometimes this can be cleared up by booting into single user mode and using fsck, but when that doesn’t even work, DiskWarrior comes to the rescue and repairs whatever was wrong. It has saved my bacon on several occasions.
The latest version is 4.1 and it works with Leopard. I just received my upgrade copy and used it to rebuild the directory on my MacBook and MacMini just for kicks.
I recommend getting a copy. You won’t need it 99% of the time, but for that 1% it’s totally worth its weight in gold.
