How To Get A List Of All iTunes Movie Rentals

May 8th, 2008

For obvious reasons, I’ve been keeping tabs on all the movies available for rent via iTunes. It’s actually not super straight-forward to get a comprehensive list, so I’ve documented some methods that use iTunes and a few website resources.

Method 1

Launch iTunes. Visit the iTunes Store.

Click “Movies” in the upper left column.

In the Movies section, click “All Rentals” in the lower left corner.

You’ll get a set of pages with movies listed alphabetically with small thumbnails. There are 47 pages which you’ll have to page through.

Method 2

Launch iTunes. Visit the iTunes Store. Click “Power Search” in the upper right corner.

Set the first drop down to “Movies”. Check the box next to “Search movies that are available for Rental”. Leave everything else blank and click the “Search” button on the right.

In the bottom pane, you’ll get a list of all available rentals. Click “More Results” in the bottom right corner to continue through the list.

Method 3

Launch iTunes. Visit the iTunes Store. Click Browse (either in the right side bar or the eyeball icon the bottom right corner).

Click “Movies” in the first column and a genre in the second column. You’ll get a list of movies in the bottom panel. Click the “Price” column header to sort the list by price. The movies with a “Rent Movie” or “View Movie” button are available as a rental.

Method 4

Instead of mucking about in iTunes, just visit a website where someone else has gone through the trouble to generate a list for you:

You may notice I haven’t yet found a website that lists all the iTunes movie rentals (the topic of this post). If you know of one, please let me know in the comments and I’ll update this post.

    Thanks!

The "All rentals" filter from method 1 is gone now (the past couple weeks or so I've noticed).

The power search option works but I want the rentals sorted by release date.

The browse method sorta works - but I think things have changed in iTunes now because once I have sorted by release date, it has "view movie" listed but the movie is not for rent or buy - but pre-order. And unfortunately, this browsing (when it is a rental), doesn't show the rental price so you'll have to click it anyways.

i liked method 1 (which doesn't appear to be an option now like i said - in canada anyways). I'll email/contact apple and see what they find for me.
