Synopsis

Chief struggles emotionally with the death of his wife, Callie. Tigh tries to learn more about the Cylons from the captured “Caprica” Six, and has conflicting memories of his dead wife, Ellen. Meanwhile, Baltar’s religious cult is attacked by other religious groups, to where Roslin and Lee must attempt a political solution.

Thoughts

In a chilling bar scene, Chief admits to Adama that he settled for Callie when he gave up on Boomer. It’s unclear if his anger stems from his Cylon nature coming to the surface, or psychological trauma from Callie’s death. Add that Adama doesn’t know Chief is a Cylon made for an incredible scene.

There’s a great parallel between Chief mourning Callie and Tigh still thinking about Ellen – two skin job Cylons stunned by the deaths of their human spouses.

Another parallel emerged that was quite thrilling – Caprica Six telling Tigh she loved Baltar, with Tigh imagining she’s Ellen, talking about him. I loved the disturbed, confused look on Tigh’s face as he listens to Six and the ensuing compassion and violence.

Otherwise, I wasn’t as taken in by Baltar’s transformation into a religious leader and the conflict between sects. Also, Baltar’s sermon at episode’s end came off as religious hokum. While his followers find it very inspiring, Lee turns away in disgust. I think we as the audience were meant to feel the same, highlighting the potential danger of Baltar as a leader of religious fanatics.
