Battlestar Galactica: Resurrection Ship (2)

Synopsis

Lee floats on his back in a pool of water, when actually, he’s floating in deep space. The time jumps to 48 hours earlier. Starbuck tells Lee about her orders to kill Cain, and asks for his help. Meanwhile, several Pegasus soldiers beat the crap out of Chief and Helo in the brig. Fisk stops them.

Before the attack on the Cylons, Cain tells Starbuck that she should never flinch from her duty. Cain is unaware of Adama’s order to assassinate her.

Having no-one else to confide in, Adama asks Sharon why the Cylons hate the human race. She says humans are a flawed creation and perhaps they don’t deserve to survive.

The Galactica and Pegasus open fire on the base stars. Flying the stealth ship, Lee destroys the resurrection ship, but is then hit by a raider and forced to eject into deep space. Adama dispatches a raptor to rescue him.

Jack comes aboard the Galactica bridge with some armed marines, to carry out his mission of killing Commander Adama. Meanwhile, Starbuck heads toward the Pegasus bridge, to carry out her mission of killing Admiral Cain.

Cain tells Starbuck that she is proud of her, when he ship to ship comes on. Adama does not give Starbuck the order to kill Cain. Cain tells Adama that she wants to talk to Jack. Cain does not give the order to kill Adama either.

As Baltar leaves the brig, Gina attacks a guard and grabs a gun. She asks Baltar to shoot her. Baltar can’t do it, telling her that he loves her and would give her a place to stay. She runs off with the gun and shoots Cain, killing her.

After Cain’s funeral, Roslin promotes Adama to Admiral. He kisses her, which is a little - odd.

Thoughts

I really love the scene where Cain tells Starbuck to not flinch from her duty. It’s like a person unaware that they are asking someone to kill them.

It’s also amusing that just when Cain finds some redemption and chooses not to kill Adama, she is killed by Six. But this is also a case where the character is so despicable that they must die - it’s just a matter of by whom. Having Gina do the deed is economical and a good way out. But one must see Razor to see how much of a tragic betrayal this act really is - she was killed by a former lover.

The three episodes, Pegasus, Resurrection Ship (1), and Resurrection Ship (2) are one of my favorite “runs” of Battlestar Galactica. Awesome stuff.

Meanwhile, I really don’t like the Adama Roslin potential romance thing. Yikes.
