Webomatica DVD Give Away #6
I have three more DVDs to hand out, and am feeling rather lazy about this, so I’ll just give all three away at once.
The rules this time out: just leave a comment with the name of a cool movie you’ve seen that you think I’d like. First movie title that I haven’t already seen (check this list to see all the movie reviews I’ve written as a start), wins the three DVDs.
Also, make sure you leave a valid email address in your comment so I can contact you to get your mailing address send you the goods.
That’s it, and that concludes this round of this DVD contest on the blog. Thanks to all who participated.
Superbad…
Funny you mention that flick as I just got it via Netflix, so it’s sitting on our TV stand … BUT I have not watched it yet. So you win the three DVDs. Conveniently I might add as it will save me a trip to the post office.
The three flicks you won are 8 1/2, Sunset Boulevard, and Chinatown. Congrats!
OMG, that (“Superbad”) was, to me, simply horrible! The crudity level was so high, I was embarrassed to be watching it with my wife. Didn’t even bother finishing the movie. But congrats on the win, Papa!
Try “Brick” for an interesting spin on teen movies — it blends a crime mystery theme with ‘40s noir dialog and is in a high school setting.
Also, for a decidedly low-key (almost no discernible special effects) science fiction film, try “Primer.” It’s a “hard science” sci fi movie that is entirely uncompromising — you’re just thrusted into the story and not really given any slack if you can’t keep up. Honestly, I felt lost for the first 15–20 minutes but then it started clicking. There’s an “ah ha!” moment around 3/4 of the way thru the movie that made it all pay off for me. This is definitely not a movie for casual viewing — you have to pay attention!
Also, check out “Sunshine” for another interesting sci fi movie. This one definitely has some spectacular special effects, but not in the typical “all fluff, no substance” Hollywood style.
And you might check out “The Fountain” with Hugh Jackman. Also features stunning visuals. Very interesting story.
It might be worth mentioning that my wife didn’t like any of these 4 I’ve recommended — these were just too far from her mainstream movie tastes to hold her interest. But if you liked “Existenz,” you might be up for some of this weirdness too…
Cool, I’ll add those flicks to my list. I have heard good things about
Sunshine. I didn’t care for The Fountain as it was too out there in terms of
the plot. I do agree the visuals were cool.
Cronenberg, I have mixed feelings on, but I feel moved to continue with his
stuff. I haven’t seen Naked Lunch in a while.
Superbad = win because of the cop/kid.
Brick = good because it was something different.
Primer = awesome, but way too confusing. I don’t think anyone understands it fully.
Sunshine = good, but not amazing.
The Fountain = shit storyline.
Existenz = awesome, but maybe only because I missed the first 5 minutes.
Totally agree with Existenz. While I liked that flick, it would definitely have been better if the first few minutes didn’t exist. The ending would have been a bigger surprise.
i love to watch movies which has interesting science fiction and related to some adventure. it does not matter how many times i watch i just like to watch them.
