Battlestar Galactica: Final Cut
Synopsis
Diana Biers (Lucy Lawless) is a sensationalist reporter who shot some unauthorized footage of the military firing on civilians during Tigh’s declaration of martial law. Adama wants to give her unlimited access to the Galactica to humanize the military in the eyes of the civilian fleet - basically a PR move. Meanwhile, someone has left a threatening message on Tigh’s mirror.
Diana Biers wanders Galactica with a cameraman, interviewing various crew members. She films an argument between Chief and Kat on the flight deck, and Adama telling Tigh to go on shore leave. There’s an explosion on a ship Tigh has boarded - it looks like sabotage.
Biers sets up an interview with Tigh. He says the military mishap aboard the Gideon was a justifiable military decision. He then storms out of the room, saying he was being set up.
Later, Biers asks Adama why Tigh hasn’t been charged with a crime. He says they’re at war and can’t afford to lose Tigh.
Kat has a hard time landing because she’s jacked up on “stims.” Biers follows her into an emergency room, and accidentally films Dr. Cottle examining Sharon, whose existence is not known to the rest of the fleet. Fearing Biers has gone too far, Adama asks her for the tape. She asks why the Galactica is harboring a Cylon.
Two raiders attack, and Biers captures the tense situation on the bridge as the raiders are destroyed.
Tigh is attacked by a pilot who involved in the Gideon shootings and wracked with guilt. Just in time, the soldier is stopped.
On the Colonial One, Biers shows her filmed footage to Roslin, Tigh, and Adama. Despite painting the military in a negative light, it is a humane portrayal of their hard work and occasional failures.
Three human-looking Cylon models watch Beirs’ broadcast. It’s then revealed that she is a Cylon.
Thoughts
Certainly not one of my favorite episodes, as it’s self contained and has a “feel good” vibe near its end that isn’t my cup of tea. I feel it’s only notable as it introduces the Cylon model Diana Biers: Number 3.
