Synopsis

On Caprica, Starbuck and Anders have “hooked up.” The human resistance plans to attack a Cylon base and steal a heavy raider to escape the planet. Unfortunately, Starbuck is shot and captured during a Cylon ambush.

On Galactica, Adama is well enough to resume command. He calls for a search of every ship for Roslin and Lee who have both gone “underground.” Roslin broadcasts a message through the fleet which Adama angrily calls it religious “crap.”

Starbuck awakes in a hospital. A doctor named Simon says she underwent surgery and Anders is dead. Suspicious, Starbuck sneaks weakly out of her room, and sees the doctor talking to a Number 6 model. Realizing she’s been captured by Cylons, the next day she stabs Simon in the throat and runs out of the room.

Along her way out she sees a large room filled with bed-ridden women hooked up to machines. Starbuck destroys one of them, cutting the power. She takes out a Six model and exits the building. Luckily, Anders and the resistance are there to meet her and provide cover as several “toasters” open fire. A Cylon heavy raider flown by Sharon comes out of the sky to take out the toasters.

Meanwhile, a third of the fleet jumps away from Galactica to join Roslin and return to Kobol.

Now in possession of a heavy raider, Starbuck can return to the fleet with the Arrow of Apollo. Anders will stay behind, but Starbuck says she’ll return someday to rescue him. The heavy raider lifts off from Caprica.

Thoughts

Another human-resembling Cylon model is revealed: Simon the doctor.

I wonder if Starbuck’s hospital stay will eventually lead to an explain her reappearance at the end of season three and into season four. Sharon says they were trying to create Cylon human hybrids, or learn the secrets of reproduction since they are limited to cloning a set group of models. Were her ovaries harvested in order to create an “alternate Starbuck”? Leoben hints at this by showing Starbuck a “daughter” in Season three.

Alright that's it, I'm going to start watching this show. It's like the 2nd most freaking talked about show online (Lost being #1). I guess I'll rent season 1 the next time I'm @ blockbuster.

Heh... maybe I should write a post summing up why I love the show. But in brief:

    1. it's a very realistic portrayal of sci-fi - spaceships have velocity, there are no aliens, nukes are the most powerful weapons, the fleet runs into supply issues, there's politics hampering the military.
    2. they're exploring some deeper issues very well: how people react during the after math of a catyclism, whether the humans deserve to survive, robots becoming sentient (cylons are robots created by humans), what's justifiable for the military and politicians during a time of war, and ultimately what it means to be human.
    3. right now is season four which is definitely the last season, meaning the show will be wrapped up. Hopefully all the mysteries will be tied up saitsfyingly and I think the creators have the guts and talent to do it. This isn't a show that will go on for ten seasons and never get any resolution (one complaint about star trek).
    4. some really strong characters / actors, my faves are Admiral Adama, Starbuck, Tigh, and Baltar.
    5. There are some truly awesome episodes where everything is flipped around bringing definition to the words "WTF?"

Make sure you rent season 1 with the miniseries included, as there's a surprise at the end of that one.
