Synopsis

Having shot Adama, Boomer is finally discovered to be a Cylon, and is carted off to the brig. Roslin and Lee are both in the brig as well, following their presidential resistance. With Adama out of commission, Tigh becomes commander of the fleet in the middle of a Cylon attack. He orders an emergency jump, separating Galactica from the rest of the fleet.

Gaeta comes up with a crazy plan to jump to their previous location and network several computers to locate the rest of the fleet. This will take ten minutes during which the Galactica must hold off the Cylons, both physically with vipers and digitally using a firewall. Tigh agrees, although Kelly says the “old man” would never do such a thing. Lee is released from the brig to participate in the viper defense.

After the jump, the Cylons immediately attack, and begin hacking the Galactica computers. An unusual Cylon craft heads toward the Galactica. In the nick of time, the fleet location is plotted, the network broken, and Galactica jumps away to be reunited with the other ships. But the strange craft has landed aboard Galactica, carrying several “toaster” cylons.

On Kobol, Balatar awakens to find the crash survivors preparing to move toward the forest for cover. Chief wants to pull more supplies from the wreckage but Crashdown (“LT”) wants to rush off. Partway into the forest, the wounded Socinus takes a turn of the worse. Crashdown sends Chief, Callie, and Tarn back to the crash site to get medical supplies. Along the way, they’re ambushed by Cylons and Tarn is shot multiple times. Chief is pissed.

On Caprica. Starbuck is unhappy with Helo’s loyalty to Athena, whom he wants to protect because she’s carrying his child. Athena sneaks away and flies off in the raider Starbuck arrived in.

Thoughts

Crashdown is revealed to be a horrible leader, but is in unfortunately in charge of the downed party as its highest ranking officer. Likewise, with Adama out of commission, Tigh assumes command of the Galactica, and while he seems reasonably competent in this episode, things unravel surprisingly quickly in future ones.

We also see inside Tigh’s mind for the first time, via flashbacks to his early days in the military with Bill, who shepherded Tigh into an officer’s post despite his alcoholism.
