Old Media Getting It: More Classic TV Shows

February 23rd, 2008

Hard to not miss the news that CBS just put up the complete Star Trek: The Original Series for viewing online, for free. The “catch” is video ads scattered throughout the episodes.

Also showing on the site are Hawaii Five-0, The Twilight Zone, Melrose Place, and MacGyver. I have particular curiosity about Hawaii Five-0. Poking around the site further reveals some forums where fans of a particular show can congregate.

All in all, I feel this is more sign that the “old media” folks are slowly but surely getting their video stuff online and supplementing with social networking features. My personal preference is iTunes, but there’s not much to complain about free videos.

  • Yes, the resurgence in old TV shows is awesome. I've been using my Hulu beta membership to watch old Doogie Howsers and Airwolf episodes. The video ads are a little irritating at first, but I've gotten used to them now.
  • Yeah, Hulu is getting better, too. I noticed old episodes of Battlestar Galactica which is a personal favorite.
  • your video shows are very interesting aand nice to watch.
