Apple Releases 10.5.2
February 12th, 2008
Yesterday, Apple released 10.5.2, the latest update to Mac OS X Leopard. It has a slew of bug fixes and an odd new feature here and there.
It’s a fairly hefty download – mine was 180 MB. It also took a fair amount of time on both my Mac Mini and MacBook. The installation looked like it was hanging, followed by two restarts. So expect to be without your computer for a while. I haven’t played with it enough to know if it’s more stable, but so far so good – no implosions.
Two fixes in particular I griped about before have been fixed. Stacks has more view options, of which I prefer the list for folders with lots of items inside.

Second, the translucent menu bar can be turned off. This option is under System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Desktop.

I also noticed a DVD or CD Sharing under System Preferences -> Sharing. This is likely for helping out your MacBook Air, but it might be useful for other situations.

Lastly, a Time Machine icon appears in the menu bar, providing access to backup options. It also provides a friendly reminder to start doing backups, if you haven’t already.

10.5.2 was followed by a Graphics Update. With 10.5.2 and the Graphics Update, some are reporting better game performance, specifically in World of Warcraft.
Anyhow, that’s what I’ve noticed. Let me know what else you’ve found…
