Please Ignore The iPhone Nano Rumors

January 3rd, 2008

AppleEver since the iPod Mini and then the Nano, the size-reduction concept has been applied to every Apple product in search of a MacWorld rumor that could be true. So now we have a nonsensical “iPhone Nano” rumor.

The iPhone is currently on the edge of readability. Any smaller and it would require an iMicroscope and a pair of tweezers to use MultiTouch. After all the hemming and hawing for a large enough screen to make watching video compelling on a portable device, do you really think Apple wants to go backwards? Heck no.

Any features currently included in the iPhone will more likely trickle down to the iPod line. In a sense, we already have an iPhone Nano - it’s the iPod Touch. If you really want to squint and play pick up the rice grain on a tiny screen, I’m sure you’ll get to do so on the gateway drug that is the iPod Nano sometime in 2009.

So to sum up, the iPhone Nano makes as much sense as an AppleTV Nano. Don’t expect anything of this nature at MacWorld 2008. And if I’m wrong, I’ll eat my iPod Nano so I can buy a new one.

Disclosure: I own a tiny amount of Apple stock.

Well put. I thought this rumor was dead six months ago. Why does everyone think that Apple is going to repeat an exact pattern with every one of its products? The iPod nano made sense. People wanted a smaller iPod they could use for jogging, yet still have a screen. And 4 GB was enough storage for most people. Plus, there was a such thing as a Flash-based portable music player market that Apple had yet to really tackle.

The iPhone is already Flash-based, and it’s already small enough to compete with any similarly featured phone, and then some. So why would Apple make a smaller one just for the sake of making a smaller one?

Agreed. I don’t want it any smaller. I just want it to do some of the things my old phone did: take video and accept mms messages better. Oh, and let me use non-iphone headphones and browse the web faster/ or multi-task and not freeze up. yeah, that’d be nice. But I don’t want it smaller. I don’t care about that at all.

iphone nano??? that’s too small to watch youtube on. i agree with you. they would be kinda dumb if they choose to make iphone nano, though, i think iphone is kinda bulky. it wouldn’t fit in my pocket. But i love ipod nano though. the 3rd generation one. I have it and i love it so much =)

I doubt Apple will come out with an iPhone Nano during MacWorld 2008. For the year 2008, I’m pretty sure we’ll see another iPhone, but again, I doubt there will be an iPhone Nano…
