Please Ignore The iPhone Nano Rumors
January 3rd, 2008
Ever since the iPod Mini and then the Nano, the size-reduction concept has been applied to every Apple product in search of a MacWorld rumor that could be true. So now we have a nonsensical “iPhone Nano” rumor.
The iPhone is currently on the edge of readability. Any smaller and it would require an iMicroscope and a pair of tweezers to use MultiTouch. After all the hemming and hawing for a large enough screen to make watching video compelling on a portable device, do you really think Apple wants to go backwards? Heck no.
Any features currently included in the iPhone will more likely trickle down to the iPod line. In a sense, we already have an iPhone Nano - it’s the iPod Touch. If you really want to squint and play pick up the rice grain on a tiny screen, I’m sure you’ll get to do so on the gateway drug that is the iPod Nano sometime in 2009.
So to sum up, the iPhone Nano makes as much sense as an AppleTV Nano. Don’t expect anything of this nature at MacWorld 2008. And if I’m wrong, I’ll eat my iPod Nano so I can buy a new one.
