Warning: Your Blog Could Be Hacked

Blogs Just a friendly public service announcement. David Airey’s blog, which I’m a regular reader of, was recently hacked. In this case, someone logged into his GMail account and managed to transfer his domain name. Read all the details at David’s new location.

While this sucks, David wants to learn from the experience and spread some words of caution. He believes that the hack was timed as he announced he was going on vacation via the blog. Second, it’s good advice to make all your passwords very lengthy and change them on a regular basis. Both are great advice, and if you’re looking for some new year’s resolutions, those might be ones to start with.

Very scary and that's the best New Years Resolution I have head so far. Other than changing passwords, what else do you recommend?

It was a set-back for sure, but it has been so great reading all the positive comments from people like you. Just goes to show the fantastic group of people there are in the blog world!

I think it's a pretty fair assessment. We've had a surge of innovation in the last year, which has been followed by a shed load of copy cats and mashups (your service + his service = my service) with a few gems here and there. Hopefully in time something cool will rise out of the "me too" brigade. - Slippy Lane
The only problem I see with web 2.0 is that it seem there's not many orginal ideas. I mean twitter comes on the scene and next we see 50 look alikes that don't seem unique enough. I believe there still is a vast area of ideas yet to be discovered but there are also a lot of compaines that will end up in the dead pool. - Colide81

I think it's good the industry slows down a little bit and looks back to see how to get more people into this world. The early adopters are too far ahead of mainstream people. Half of these companies, I thought, were not so much Web 2.0 or cutting edge, but transitional, bringing technologies to the enterprise. That's why they're willing to spend money on an event like this. And, Robert, I thought your post drifted from critiquing their sites to critiquing their products and business models. @Zee (top): iPhone Apps, OS X shareware, looking forward to CS4, like the intersection of entertainment and tech (Amazon streaming video). Bored with social networking web2.0 stuff and web apps that are far inferior to desktop software. I think maybe the state of the US economy and our current political turmoil might be having an effect on innovation in "Web 2.0". We're all kind of focused more on the essentials than the "fluff" of which most websites are, as much as like to think they are life-changing amazing things.
